Mayor Lynn Spruill is a barrier-breaking and transformational public servant who embodies a collaborative leadership approach to get things done.
Starkville — Today, Mayor Lynn Spruill announced that she will run for re-election in the 2021 municipal election. Mayor Spruill is the first woman elected to lead the city in Starkville’s 185 year history. Mayor Spruill is a barrier-breaking public servant with a track record of trailblazing, forward-thinking executive leadership.
Mayor Spruill is a former United States Naval Officer and pilot, Mayor of Addison, Texas, pilot for Delta Air Lines and Starkville city administrator. She is also a successful businesswoman, realtor, and holds a law degree.
Mayor Spruill and the current Board of Aldermen have accomplished a lot in the last three and a half years—spending approximately $27 million dollars to improve Starkville’s infrastructure on needs such as sidewalks, multi-use walking and bike paths, roads, sewer, and drainage. They have updated the current city parks and recreational facilities while beginning to build the new Cornerstone Park Complex, a state of the art tournament and recreation park. Mayor Spruill and the current Board of Aldermen are supporting the beautification of the city by introducing street pianos around the city, murals by local artists, and additional lighting in the central downtown business district.
“It has been my pleasure to serve the people of Starville over the last three and a half years, and while we have accomplished so much there is so more for us to do,” said Mayor Spruill. “I want to make sure our businesses and community recover and build back stronger from the COVID pandemic; complete the building of the Cornerstone Park Complex; and finish the annexation process. I also want to lead our city in the process of developing and improving services in the northern part of the city.”
Mayor Spruill will focus on continuing the growth in Starkville if elected to a second term. She will work to attract tournaments to bring in additional revenue for the city at the new Cornerstone Park Complex. Mayor Spruill will also work to redevelop Highway 182 and bring additional services and retail to the northern part of the city.
